THE HILARIOUS COVID-19 PANDEMIC - Tough New Yorkers, My Ass

CAN'T ESCAPE THE PARANOIA

NOTE: Another Re-Print from 2021

During an unseasonably warm February day (Gasp! Global Warming! We’re all gonna die!), as the 25th approached and all I could dream about was Florida weather, had the two mutts out for another constitutional. This one down the main drag of West End Avenue, and then a return on Freedom Alley, a thoroughfare cutting the Upper West Side north to south from 59th Street to 70th Street. It’s never heavily populated and with the pandemic in full-throated “Get vaccinated, or you’ll kill Granny!” it had all the activity of a graveyard.

An aside on the last statement. Up until the election, certified dunces such as Kamala Harris (Now second in command!), Sonny Cuomo, Tony Fauci, and President House Plant dissed the vaccine as snake oil and The Trump Vax.

Now, those same mediocrities of public life are trotting out Shaming Propaganda to get y’all jabbed. Threats such as loss of jobs, and other niceties of the “liberal” state proliferate.

Neighbors calling out neighbors as “Vaccine Deniers.” Nice.

Have pointed this out to my Leftist friends and the remarks are met with brilliance such as, “Huh?” and “Whuh?”

Now, to the sorta daily anecdote for all things Covid.

As I walked Freedom Alley, in the distance a young woman exited Thelonius Monk Square (Ain’t making that up). She spotted me, still a block away.

     Stopped.

Reached into her handbag and pulled out one of those faux surgical green masks and put it on. We were 50 feet apart, and practically the only people on the block. Even Moose, the mostly black lab (Or African-American retriever as I like to call him) looked at her as though insane. Which she is/was.

Now I stopped. And refused to cross the street, or give up my part of the sidewalk. The mask-obsessed twit opted to take 63rd Street east and away from a possible confrontation.

     Or infection, which is ludicrous.

     Someday I’ll understand that thinking.

     Someday.
